Description: A political flyer from the Australian's Against Further Immigration Party (AFFI) running in the 2007 New South Wales state elections. The AAFI party began in 1989 by Dr. Rodney and Robyn Spencer, with the belief that immigration was responsible for all of Australia's social ills. The party was against net immigration and believed that immigration should only replace emigration. Party members were often noted for their racist remarks and outlandish claims about migration.

The AAFI was also criticized for not having any policies, appearing unorganized and amateur. The party attracted attention when it branded itself as 'eco-nationalist' linking itself to the growing environmental movement. Support for the party faded with the rise of Pauline Hanson and the One Nation Party which had a similar ideology. Robyn Spencer worked closely with Pauline Hanson during the founding years of the One Nation party. The AAFI was deregistered from the federal electoral committee in 1999 but continued to participate in state elections until 2008.

Significance: This object represents the xenophobic and racist attitudes held by some Australians in contemporary Australian society. It illustrates the way in which the spread of fear and misinformation is used to shape opinion. Groups like these continue to advocate against multiculturalism spreading prejudicial and discriminatory information. Ignorant perspectives like those of the AAFI highlight the need for greater education surrounding migration and cultural diversity.

Water of Migrants

It's Your Choice

Sydney is at breaking point. There are just too many people here. You will be asked to drink treated sewage just so thousands & thousands of migrants can come here and enjoy all the benefits you have worked for. Increased population from immigration directly causes grid-locked roads, over stretched health services and a reduced standard of education. Multiculturalism has turned into multitribalism.
